Sheriff’s detectives investigating homicide in Ramona

Karen Kucher –

Deputies and homicide detectives in Ramona were searching for a homicide suspect early Thursday after a person was killed, a sheriff’s official said.

Someone called 911 shortly after 5:45 a.m. to report an assault with a deadly weapon on Pine Street near Olive Street. When deputies arrived they found the victim had suffered fatal injuries, said sheriff’s Lt. Mark Moreno.

It was not immediately known if the person was male or female.

No details about the assault were released.

Deputies launched a search in the area and a section of Pine Street was closed to traffic.

Video shot by OnScene TV showed several deputies, working with a police dog, and with a drone flying overhead, searching what appeared to be a vacant lot near trailers and at least one home.

Moreno said a sheriff’s helicopter also assisted in the search and was telling residents via a loudspeaker to be on the lookout for a subject wearing dark clothing.

No other details were immediately available.
